The Florida Asthma Coalition (FAC) supports development, implementation, mentoring and continuous quality improvement process for Asthma-Friendly Pharmacies, in conjunction with Asthma Friendly Providers and Asthma Friendly Hospitals. By working together and taking the steps to be recognized as an Asthma-Friendly Pharmacy, pharmacists help to reduce early refills of rescue medications, late refills of controller medications, and early detection of symptoms or changes in control to help reduce emergency department visits, urgent care visits, and hospitalizations. Additionally, improved comprehensive asthma care management teams will help to reduce the burden of asthma and improve asthma-related quality of life.
The Asthma-Friendly Pharmacy recognition is awarded on four tier-levels and has a total of five criteria for those aiming for Platinum – Asthma Center of Excellence recognition. The Asthma-Friendly Pharmacy recognition is valid for two years from the award date.
Awarded pharmacies also receive a certificate recognizing this achievement, press releases if desired, and a customized logo to be utilized for marketing their status as an Asthma-Friendly Pharmacy recognized by the Florida Asthma Coalition.
